Yan Chen
Assistant Professor
Dr. Yan Chen received the B.S. and M.S. degrees (with honors) in Control Science and Engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin, China in 2004 and 2006, respectively. He received his second M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rice University, Houston in 2009, and the Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from The Ohio State University, Columbus in 2013.
Dr. Chen joined Arizona State University as an Assistant Professor and founded Dynamic Systems and Control Laboratory (DSCL) in August 2016, after three years of full-time automotive industrial research experience. Dr. Chen’s research interests include design, modeling, estimation, control, optimization, and safety of dynamic systems, specifically for connected and automated ground vehicle, (hybrid) electric vehicle, internal combustion engine, aftertreatment, energy, and mechatronic systems. Dr. Chen’s research projects have been funded by federal agencies and industrial companies, such as National Science Foundation (NSF), Department of Energy (DOE), Office of Naval Research (ONR), Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA), General Motors (GM), Intel, SRP, MathWorks, and others. He is the author or co-author of more than 70 peer-reviewed publications.
Dr. Chen serves as an Associate Editor for the journal of IFAC Mechatronics, IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, and IEEE CSS Conference Editorial Board. He currently serves as the chair of ASME Automotive and Transportation Systems Technical Committee. He is a recipient of 2020 SAE Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award and 2019 DSCC Automotive and Transportation Systems Best Paper Award.

Ao Li received his B.S. degree in Automotive Engineering from Northeastern University in 2015 and M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Arizona State University in 2017, respectively. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering at Arizona State University.
His research interests are focused autonomous driving, vehicle system modeling, simulation, analysis and optimization.
Gang Wang

Gang Wang received his B.S. degree in Vehicle Engineering from Dalian Jiaotong University in 2018 and M.S. degree in Transportation Engineering from Tongji University in 2021, respectively. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. degree in Systems Engineering at Arizona State University.
His research interests are focused on connected and automated vehicles, vehicle dynamics and control, and cooperative control.
Shi Lu (co-advise)

Shi Lu received his B.S. and M.S. degree in Control Engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology in 2015, and in Electric Engineering from Arizona State University in 2018, respectively. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. degree in Electric Engineering at Arizona State University.
His research interests are focused on UAV dynamics and control, optimization, design and modeling.
Jingxiong Meng (co-advise)

Jingxiong received his B.S. and M.S. degree in Transportation from South China University of Technology in 2020, and in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 2022, respectively. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. degree in Systems Engineering at Arizona State University.
His research interests are focused on machine learning, transportation route planning, and connected and automated vehicles.

Jialin Wan received his B.S. and M.S. degree in Computer Science from Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin, China in 2015 and 2017, respectively. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. degree in Computer Engineering at Arizona State University.
His work focuses on reinforcement learning, wireless networks, and automated vehicles.

Mingzhe Liu received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University in 2018 and M.S. degree in Automotive Engineering from Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR) in 2020, respectively. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. degree in Systems Engineering at Arizona State University.
His research interests are focused on connected and automated vehicles, vehicle dynamics and control, modeling of dynamic systems, and optimization.
